Here are a few pictures from the 60th annual Speedweek held at the
Bonnevile salt flats of course. We were there for three days
and saw a lot of great cars and motorcycles. We camped out at the bend in the
road and had a great time. I hope you like the pictures we collected.
Wild Ford!
Salt Crazy
This is the Costella Rock streamliner motorcycle ran with a 250cc engine and topped out at 208 mph. FOr those that don;t know this has two wheels so it is a motorcycle. The sit on bikes have their own class.
Amazing packaging on these machines
The owner of this bike went around 200 mph and let the kids sit on it for a minute and pretend.
Cool old race car
I love looking at all the details
This is a streamliner (car) that is named after Rett Nearburg. Retts father Charles races the car in the memor of his son who after an eleven year fight with cancer passed away in 2005. I never knew Rett but I wish I had. You can read more about his life on his remeberence website at: http://www.rett.org/remembrance/index.html This car has been way over 300 mph!
Small frontal area is key in a streamliner
Cute lil Honda
This is a bellytank lakester race car. The body is made from the top and bottom half of an old WWII surplus bombers external fuel tank. There used to be a lot more of these racing but sadly they are not that common.
Another packaging miracle motorcycle streamliner.
This is a streamliner carrier. Insert and lift, COOL
This is the Old Crow bellytank. I love how simple it is and it just shows you don;t need a fancy paint job to look great! The rear top section has been circle ground to give it a great dimpled look.
This is a sidecar motorcycle with a massive engine and stretched frame. It qualifies as a sidecar because of the 3rd wheel. This thing looks fun but in a scary way, lol
I wish I knew more about bikes but this is very cool whatever it is. I love the seat and the turbo, just raw racing!
Originally built for fuel economy this Honda Insight is shaped well for land speed racing. Couldn't find any speeds for this one.
Timing on the other side of the track
Awesome logo. I think Steve Fossett drove this streamliner at a test before he went missing.
Flat black is still cool. Notice the effort in the front to keep air from getting under the car and the angle of attack helps with stability I'm sure.
This Costella Gullett streamliner motorcycle went over 230mph with a 500cc motorcycle engine. Unreal! It broke a long standing speed record by over 20mph.
This is a lakester
What a cool little car waiting to be inspected.
Old Thunderbird
There are lots of crazy machines on the salt. That is a clock up front I think. If that toilet paper comes out he will never find it on the salt. Must be a boy scout, BE PREPARED.
No the truck didn't hit this bellytank. Many of the cars at Bonnevile get pushed up to speed due to gearing the car for top speed. This one is getting pushed back to the pits I think. The track is over 5 miles long so you need a push vehicle just to get the cars around.
I can't imagine this thing was used as a push car. It has to be one of the coolest Chevys I've ever seen!!
BIG HAIRY SUPERCHARGER
Love this exhaust detail!
Mile long tails
This is a rubber band powered car, not kidding. See the next pics. When I first approached this car I couldn;t figure out what was going on but then it clicked. Can;t get any info on if this car ran.
It looks like the front set of bands power the left wheel and the rear set power the other wheel. Each band set has a gear on one side of the cart which runs the big gear on the outside.
Great use of black and gold
